ADVANCED DRIVER TRAINING
DEFENSIVE DRIVING
Defensive Driver Training can reduce accident rates and fleet operational costs significantly. The course creates and awareness of the correct attitude for the driving environment and fosters improved respect for vehicles and road knowledge to minimize risk.
On completion of the course participants will be able to:

Identify areas of potential danger to minimize risk factors

Maximize safety margins while driving at optimum speeds

Introduction to programme

The principles of the Defensive Driving System

Driver attitudes and consideration for other road users

Bad habits – hazardous driving situations

Accidents – why they happen and how to avoid them

Use of signals and discussion on junctions

Effects of not applying the Defensive Driving System

Practical session: Commentary drive by instructor with verbal identification of hazards and compensatory measures applied

On-road in-vehicle tuition for participants on the principles of defensive driving with emphasis on vehicle handling
Methods of Training
The course utilizes a range of techniques including lectures, group discussion, slide programmes and syndicate work.
Participants are also assessed on their practical skills by means of a practice driving session with the instructor.
